About

Cities + Travel: the best planned, the most famous, shared.

Our mission is simple: share great places.

Hi everyone! My name is Nectarios Pittos and I’m the author of this blog.  In this blog we’ll explore the great places that people love to visit because I think travelling is a great way to find the best in city design.  After all, people like visiting places for a reason.

But first, a little bit about me:  I am a twelve (12) year veteran urban planner and a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and the American Planning Association (APA).  I’ve worked in both urban and suburban communities in the Chicagoland region.  I have expertise in historic preservation, sustainability, alternative transportation, physical and long range planning and a host of other profession related subjects.  I’ve also spoken at multiple conferences like the APA’s National Planning Conference, Prairie State Network and the DePaul Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development.

We explore the great places that people love to visit because traveling is a great way to find the best in city design.

I started this blog because of my wife, Courtney Pittos.  She works with Life’s A Trip Travel, a boutique travel agency and she specializes in sending people to Europe and the Caribbean on popular vacations and holidays.  We were talking one day and it became clear to me that there was a connection between the two things we do: city planning and travel.  People like me plan, build and maintain places in cities and travel agents send people to see those places.  But here was the catch: they only send them to the best places.

And that’s why I started this blog.  I want to explore great places that people love to visit.  I want to talk about them, point things out from a design perspective so an appreciation of the space is developed beyond just the space.  The idea is to get to know the history of a place and its living tradition:  it’s not a museum, it’s life!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this blog.  Check out our Twitter and Facebook pages and coming soon we’ll be on Pinterest and Google+.

Thank you!
